I am a firm believer in DVL and its ability to help where ABA fails.
I am a mom to an amazing 12 year old boy who has been non verbal for most of the beginning years of his life (2-9 years old). Grant started DVL at age 10. Although his first year of DVL was in 2019-2020, which was the year of COVID, he was able to start DVL before COVID started. He did very well with DVL. I started noticing more and more words. Two word phrases, then tree word phases followed. Then while he was out for COVID, I heard a phrase from him I had been waiting to hear forever. I wasn’t sure that I would ever hear it. He said, “I love you!”
THESE WORDS!!! The words that I longed to hear from Grant! I finally heard them!!!
I fully believe that DVL is the reason he is speaking in sentences today, and the reason I was able to hear my son tell me for the very first time, at 12 years old, that he loved me!
